ExCeL Faculty Champion Program
What is an ExCeL Faculty Champion?
ExCeL Faculty Champions are full-time faculty members at 91视频who advocate for the career readiness of students through leadership and training. Faculty Champions serve a one-year (academic year) term and:
- Implement career readiness modules and materials into their courses in alignment with the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).
- Facilitate an ExCeL Community of Practice (CoP) focused on
Becoming a Faculty Champion
Faculty Champions can be nominated by academic department chairs for programs officially affiliated with the QEP or apply independently to start an ExCeL Community of Practice. Applicants must have chair endorsement.
Eligibility
- Full-time faculty member at USF
- Relevant course(s) taught during the Fall and Spring semesters
- Commitment to the ExCeL objectives
- Endorsement from department chair
Responsibilities of Faculty Champions
As a Faculty Champion, you will be expected to:
- ExCeL Modules: Embed Career Readiness modules into your courses (including Career Navigator series, syllabus statements, and Canvas outcomes).
- Training: Participate in the Faculty Champion Spring Institute Training and Fall Workshop.
- Facilitate CoP: Establish and lead an ExCeL CoP, either within your department or an interdisciplinary
group.
- Facilitate monthly CoP meetings throughout the academic year.
- Data Collection: Report progress on objectives and outcomes gained from embedded ExCeL modules to the QEP team each semester.
- Best Practices: Nominate outstanding students and employers for recognition.
- Recognition: Attend the annual recognition event.
Compensation
- $1,000 stipend
- Opportunity to serve as a Guide to an ExCeL CoP after completing the term.

What are ExCeL Communities of Practice (CoP)?
ExCeL Communities of Practice (CoP) are collaborative groups where faculty/staff members (5-15 members) share best practices, develop strategies, and exchange resources to integrate career-readiness skills and elements of ExCeL into their curriculum. CoPs are led by Faculty Champions and through ongoing discussions and peer support, they work together to enhance student career preparedness and align coursework with industry expectations.

Roles and Responsibilities
Explorers: Engaging in the Develop segment of the . Explorers are all faculty, instructors, and staff with interest in advancing student career readiness or collaborating with peers.
Champions: Champions lead their ExCeL Community of Practice by example. They are faculty members who are infusing career readiness into their courses. They will also facilitate the monthly activities of the communities. Training with the Center for Career & Professional Development and Innovative Education will prepare Champions for all the aspects of this role.
Guides: As selected and invited by the community Guides are experienced former champions,
career educators, academic advisors or even industry leaders who provide expertise
in the focus area of the used as a framework in the QEP. They support the communities through mentorship,
administrative support, or industry perspectives.
