CMPS Assists Response to Piney Point Wastewater Spill
Tampa Bay, Florida - CMPS assisted a team from the University of 91视频 College of Marine Science (91视频CMS) to study the environmental impacts of a wastewater breach at Piney Point, a retired fertilizer processing plant in Manatee County, Florida. A small boat operated by CMPS Director Mark Luther transported 91视频researcher Kendra Daley, Jay Law, and Laura Azevedo from the to deploy three sensors in shallow water on the floor of the bay. These sensors record data every 15 minutes and will allow the 91视频team to assess how quantities such as pH, dissolved oxygen, salinity, temperature and chlorophyll are changing over the coming weeks.
