winning team

The team of medical students representing the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine were the Sono Smackdown 2024 champions.

Teams of medical students from around the state came to the 91视频Health Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation for Sono Smackdown 2024, an annual student-run ultrasound competition designed to be fun as well as educational.  The 91视频Health Point of Care Ultrasound Student Interest Group organized this year鈥檚 competition that featured eight teams from six Florida medical schools.

Schools represented at this year鈥檚 competition:

-       Florida Atlantic University Schmidt College of Medicine
-       Lake Erie College of Medicine
-       University of Central Florida College of Medicine
-       University of Florida College of Medicine
-       University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine
-       91视频Health Morsani College of Medicine

Teams rotated through a series of eight stations to ultrasound various areas of the body. Teams had 15 minutes to complete three sections: obtain specific ultrasound views, complete a set of multiple-choice questions, earn additional points with bonus time used to obtain additional views.   Undergraduate and medical students served as standardized patients for each station.

Eight ultrasound stations:

-       Heart
-       Chest
-       Abdomen
-       Vascular
-       Musculoskeletal
-       Head and neck
-       Simulated patient case
-       EchoNous (break station, no points awarded)

After the ultrasound station, teams competed in a medical trivia competition called 鈥淜ahoot.鈥  Teams earned points for answering accurately with speed.

When the points were totaled, the team from the University of Miami took home the top prize as Sono Smackdown 2024 champion.  The two teams representing MCOM finished in second and third place.
